Interlaboratory Study on Brake Particle Emissions Part II: Particle Number Emissions
نویسندگان
چکیده
The Particle Measurement Programme (PMP) informal working group co-ordinated a global interlaboratory study (ILS) on brake wear particle emissions with the participation of 16 laboratories in 2021. Two articles present results ILS: (I) particulate matter mass (PM) and (II) number (PN) emissions. test matrix covered different systems, including ECE NAO pad materials grey cast iron discs drum brake. Regarding PN, measured total from approximately 10 nm to 2.5 µm (TPN). Some testing facilities solid (SPN) parallel. mean TPN concentrations ranged 9.1 × 108 #/km/brake 1.1 1010 #/km/brake. SPN emission levels were comparable, except for one lab that very high volatile system. minimum maximum given differed by factor ± 0.5, comparable data exhaust ILS measurements. This article provides an overview lessons learned subsequent measures incorporated upcoming technical regulation reduce measurement variability when sampling measuring light-duty vehicles up 3.5 t.

Brake wear particle emissions: a review
Traffic-related sources have been recognized as a significant contributor of particulate matter particularly within major cities. Exhaust and non-exhaust traffic-related sources are estimated to contribute almost equally to traffic-related PM10 emissions. Non-exhaust particles can be generated either from non-exhaust sources such as brake, tyre, clutch and road surface wear or already exist in ...
متن کاملContinental anthropogenic primary particle number emissions
Atmospheric aerosol particle number concentrations impact our climate and health in ways different from those of aerosol mass concentrations. However, the global, current and future anthropogenic particle number emissions and their size distributions are so far poorly known. In this article, we present the implementation of particle number emission factors and the related size distributions in ...
متن کاملParticle Emissions from Animal Husbandry
Apart from industry, traffic and private households, the agricultural sector is a considerable contributor to emissions of particulate matter (PM). Agricultural activities such as plant and animal production on both farm sites and fields cause PM emissions. Although a reduction of PM emissions is observed for Europe, an increasing proportion of primary PM10 emissions originates from agriculture...
متن کاملParticle number concentrations over Europe in 2030: the role of emissions and new particle formation
The aerosol particle number concentration is a key parameter when estimating impacts of aerosol particles on climate and human health. We use a three-dimensional chemical transport model with detailed microphysics, PMCAMxUF, to simulate particle number concentrations over Europe in the year 2030, by applying emission scenarios for trace gases and primary aerosols. The scenarios are based on exp...
